Pho is a Vietnamese soup, that is the staple of the Vietnamese cuisines as well as culture. The word "Pho" is pronounced "fuh". There are many variations of Pho, all coming from the different combinations of meats added to either a flavorful beef broth or chicken broth.
Pho is thought to have been created in the early 1950s. The broth is prepared by boiling chicken or beef bones for long hours, along with spices, such as anise, cardamon, cinnamon, etc. This dish is generally served with vegetables that include; sprouts, basil, jalepenos, lemon or lime. Sauces that generally acompany pho are, fish sauce, hoison (dark plumy sauce), sriracha (red hot sauce).
